Kia ora, I’m Suzy — the heart behind Pīata.

Pīata is born from legacy, love, and the quiet beauty of transformation. Every piece is an taonga — hand-crafted from rescued pounamu and gold into fine everyday jewellery that carries deep meaning and mauri.

This kaupapa began alongside my husband, Hiram, and his mahi as a pounamu carver for Te Kohatu. As I watched him work, I was moved by the beauty of each taonga and envisioned potential in the offcuts — fragments left behind from carving heirloom taonga.

We both felt a pull to honour these remnants. To us, they were not waste, but whenu — threads of stories still waiting to be told.

From that shared vision, Pīata was born — a place where these sacred offcuts are transformed into delicate, intentional adornments for everyday wear. Each piece is a quiet celebration of legacy, sustainability, and whakapapa.

Pīata exists to shine light on what already holds value. As a wāhine Māori, a mother, and a creative, I’m called to work intentionally, and with aroha — to honour our whenua, our people, and our stories, shining beauty on who we are.

My creative process is deeply attuned, aligning my flow with the rhythms of nature and wairua.

I am constantly called to magnify the beauty that lies within each of us — to help wāhine remember the sacredness of who they are. My creations are a reflection of our heritage, our whakapapa, and the divine atua wāhine attributes we all carry.
